Bus Heading to Dhaka from Tripura Involved in Minor Incident; No Injuries Reported

Agartala, Nov 30 (NationPress) A bus carrying 28 passengers from India and Bangladesh encountered a minor accident on Saturday in Brahmanbaria while traveling towards Dhaka from Agartala, as reported by an official. Fortunately, there were no casualties resulting from the incident.

An official from the Transport Department stated that the Dhaka-bound bus, operated by Shyamoli Paribahan of Bangladesh, departed from Agartala on Saturday morning with 17 Indian and 11 Bangladeshi nationals aboard.

Upon reaching Ashuganj, located 31 km from the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post, a truck laden with goods attempted to overtake the bus, resulting in a collision with an auto-rickshaw. This caused a stir among local residents, according to the official.

After some negotiation, the bus driver and his assistant compensated the auto-rickshaw driver for the damages and continued their journey to Dhaka.

Fortunately, none of the passengers on the bus or the auto-rickshaw suffered any injuries during the incident.

Among the 17 Indian passengers, which included three women and a child, six were scheduled to travel to Kolkata by another bus from Dhaka.

In a social media post, Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reported that local residents in Brahmanbaria threatened the Indian passengers, shouted anti-India slogans, made derogatory comments, and even issued threats to those on board.

“The Indian passengers felt afraid due to the unpleasant circumstances,” the Tripura Minister stated, strongly condemning the incident and urging immediate action from Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Indian travelers.

Following a bilateral agreement, the Agartala-Dhaka bus service was launched in 2003, with a direct service from Kolkata to Dhaka and Agartala beginning in 2015.

This service was suspended in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on cross-border movement, resuming in June 2022.

However, following recent unrest in Bangladesh, the bus service has become irregular.
