Ten Hindus from Bangladesh Detained in Tripura for Illegal Entry

Agartala, Dec 7 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Tripura Police took into custody ten Bangladeshi nationals, who are part of the Hindu community, after they illegally crossed into India escaping turmoil and unrest in their village in Bangladesh, according to an official statement.
A police spokesperson informed that among the detained were two women, three teenagers, and an elderly individual, apprehended at the Ambassa railway station in Tripura as they were about to board a train heading towards Silchar in Assam.
“We will commence legal actions against these Bangladeshi nationals according to the law,” stated the official.
Sankar Chandra Sarkar, the leader of the group, explained that they fled their village in Kishoreganj district due to ongoing threats and harassment.
“After navigating through the dense forested hills overnight, we entered India on Saturday via Kamalpur in Tripura's Dhalai district. We intended to reach Silchar in Assam to rent a place,” he added.
“We will never return to Bangladesh under any circumstances. The situation there is extremely dire. Daily attacks on the lives and properties of Hindus have become a norm,” said Sarkar, who previously worked as a driver.
In a media conversation, he mentioned that they had to sell some of their belongings prior to their escape, but were forced to leave many of their possessions behind.
Sankar claimed that thousands of Hindu families wish to migrate to India but face various obstacles.
“During the tenure of the Awami League government led by then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we lived peacefully with no animosity between Hindus and Muslims in our neighborhoods. However, after the caretaker government of Muhammad Yunus took over, we have faced relentless harassment,” the visibly distressed man recounted.
In the past four months, more than 550 Bangladeshi nationals and over 63 Rohingyas have been detained by the Government Railway Police, Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police from Agartala railway station and various other locations in Tripura after they illegally entered India.
Following the unrest in Bangladesh that began in June-July, the BSF has stepped up surveillance along the 4,096-km long India-Bangladesh border to prevent cross-border crimes and infiltration, as stated by BSF officials.
Five Indian states—West Bengal (2216 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km)—share a border with Bangladesh.
The BSF has successfully thwarted numerous infiltration attempts by hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals, both Hindus and Muslims, on several occasions.
