Kolkata, Aug 6 (NationPress) A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court has, on Wednesday, granted interim protection from coercive police action to actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty in a case alleging financial forgery.

The actor had approached the Calcutta High Court last week, seeking the quashing of an FIR filed against him at the Chitpur police station in Kolkata. An interior designer accused Chakraborty of failing to pay for work performed on the interior design of hotels he owns.

This case was brought before a single-judge bench led by Justice Jay Sengupta. At the conclusion of the hearing, the court provided interim protection from coercive police actions stemming from the FIR until September 10.

Justice Sengupta also permitted the Kolkata Police to proceed with their investigation into the allegations.

The judge instructed the state to present the case diary to the court by September 3, at which point the case will be revisited.

Additionally, all parties involved have been asked to submit their respective affidavits prior to this date.

Chakraborty is the owner of two hotels, one situated in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, and the other in Kurseong, West Bengal.

It has been alleged that Chakraborty failed to compensate for the interior decoration of his hotels.

The complainant lodged a financial forgery complaint against the actor at the Chitpur police station in Kolkata, claiming that the event occurred in 2019.

Following this complaint, the police filed an FIR against the veteran actor.

Sources indicate that the woman designer has already provided her statement before a magistrate at a city sessions court.
