New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Enforcement Task Force of CAQM has identified a total of 336 violations, which encompass 34 from the Construction and Demolition sector, 229 from the industrial sector, and five by Diesel Generator sets, during the two-week period concluding on February 4, as reported by an official on Saturday.

During its 125th meeting on Friday, the Task Force of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) disclosed that a total of 739 inspections were conducted between January 20 and February 4.

These inspections comprised 52 in the Construction and Demolition (C&D) sector, 680 in the industrial sector, and seven for Diesel Generator set violations, according to an official statement.

The Task Force also suggested the closure of 21 polluting units, the sealing of 53 DG sets, and issued show cause notices (SCNs) to two units, with 63 reports still pending examination.

The meeting evaluated the results from inspections by the Flying Squads of the Commission across critical air pollution sectors, including industries, road dust, construction activities, Diesel Generator sets, and incidents related to Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and biomass burning.

Moreover, special inspections targeting road dust were conducted in Greater Noida on January 23 and in Gurugram on February 5, assessing road segments for the effectiveness of mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling, and adherence to prescribed dust mitigation measures.

The findings from these inspections were scrutinized thoroughly, with agencies directed to ensure strict compliance with road dust control measures, particularly during peak traffic and evening hours.

The Enforcement Task Force reviewed the nature and extent of violations reported by inspection teams, particularly concerning gross violations observed in industrial units, and considered proposed enforcement actions, including the issuance of closure directives and sealing of DG sets.

The performance of the inspection teams during the reporting period was assessed, focusing on consistency, coverage, and prompt reporting of violations.

The Task Force also reviewed the updated cumulative enforcement status, which indicated that a total of 25,975 units, projects, and entities have been inspected by the Flying Squads of the Commission to date.

Based on these inspections, 1,661 closure directives have been issued for non-compliance, with 1,278 resumption orders issued following verification of compliance by the relevant units, as mentioned in the statement.

Point of View

I believe the findings from the CAQM Task Force underscore a critical moment for our air quality management efforts. The reported violations across major sectors reveal systemic issues that need immediate attention. Staying ahead of pollution and ensuring compliance is vital for the health of our environment and citizens. This situation demands a united approach, prioritizing accountability and transparency in our governance.
