Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) Officials from the Commission for Air Quality Management in the NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) reported that flying squads conducted 330 inspections and identified 90 violations related to pollution in the NCR between January 7 and 19, according to a statement issued on Thursday.
The updates were shared during the 124th meeting of the Enforcement Task Force (ETF), where officials indicated that these inspections encompassed 241 industries, 22 diesel generator (DG) sets, and five construction and demolition (C&D) sites.
Moreover, 62 road stretches were assessed for issues such as road dust and waste accumulation. The reported violations included 66 from the industrial sector, two involving DG sets, four at C&D sites, and 18 associated with road dust, as stated by officials.
Out of the 330 inspections, enforcement actions were advised in 72 cases, which included closures, sealing of DG sets, and issuance of show cause notices.
The Commission also evaluated closure recommendations from inspection teams, noting that the closure of nine ready mix concrete (RMC) plants has been recommended.
According to the Environment Ministry, special inspection drives covering 150 road stretches were conducted on January 8 and January 13.
These inspections included 23 road stretches in Noida and 127 stretches under the authority of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, as per the statement.
Among the 150 stretches evaluated, 20 exhibited high levels of visible dust, 34 showed moderate dust levels, while 75 had low dust levels. Due to non-compliance with dust control measures, a notice was sent to the Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on January 13.
The flying squads also carried out a special inspection drive in North Delhi on January 14 to investigate incidents of biomass and municipal solid waste (MSW) burning and dumping within MCD jurisdiction.
During this inspection, 65 locations were reviewed, which resulted in 47 incidents of biomass/MSW burning and 18 instances of MSW dumping being recorded. The findings have been submitted to the relevant agencies for further action, said the statement.
As of Wednesday, a total of 25,232 units, projects, and entities have been inspected. Based on these evaluations, 1,643 closure directions have been issued for violations.
Of these, 1,261 resumption orders have been issued after verification of compliance, while 108 cases have been referred to the relevant State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for final resolution.
