Indore, May 22 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Police have taken action against cartoonist Hemant Malviya, alleging that he has disseminated “indecent” social media content regarding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) officials and BJP leaders.
This decision was prompted by a complaint lodged at the Lasudiya police station in Indore, which claimed that Malviya's cartoons related to RSS and BJP figures shared on his social media platforms (X and Facebook) are considered “offensive” and “indecent.”
The complaint further asserted that Malviya has been purposefully posting videos and messages on social media that aim to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and damage the reputation of the RSS, according to police reports.
A senior police official from Indore's Lasudiya police station stated to the media that upon receiving and reviewing the complaint, it became evident that Malviya had circulated various videos and cartoons concerning BJP and RSS officials.
The material published on Hemant Malviya's Facebook and other social media accounts includes remarks, cartoons, videos, and images related to Lord Shiva, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS, among others.
The complaint alleged that a significant portion of this content is “objectionable” and “indecent,” alleging that it was shared intentionally to target BJP and RSS officials, thereby “hurting” Hindu sentiments.
According to the police, the cartoonist has been charged under sections 196 (acts detrimental to communal harmony), 299 (deliberate act intended to hurt religious sentiments), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to breach peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with section 67A of the Information Technology Act (pertaining to the publication or transmission of material depicting sexually explicit acts in electronic form).
However, the police have not yet apprehended Malviya, indicating that further actions will be determined based on the investigation's findings.
"We have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing. We will pursue further actions based on the investigation's outcome," the police official remarked.
Malviya's Facebook profile includes a disclaimer stating that all characters in his cartoons are “fictional,” and any resemblance to actual persons is “coincidental” and based on “viewers' imagination.”
