Hyderabad, Aug 20 (NationPress) – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Telangana, along with a private individual, for their involvement in accepting a bribe.
Golla Durga Prasad, the Project Director of PIU, NHAI, Warangal, and Venu Yadav, a private citizen, were caught in the act of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 60,000 from the complainant.
The federal agency reported that it initiated the case on August 19, following allegations that they sought an undue advantage of Rs 1 lakh to avoid any obstruction to the operations of the complainant’s restaurant located near the Gudur Toll Plaza on the Hyderabad–Warangal Highway.
The demand for this undue advantage was made through the private individual, as stated by the CBI.
After negotiations, the Project Director consented to accept Rs 60,000, assuring that there would be no issues for the complainant during his five-year tenure.
The CBI set up a sting operation and apprehended both individuals on August 19 while they were demanding and receiving the bribe of Rs 60,000. They have been arrested and will be presented in court.
Searches were conducted at three different locations in Hyderabad, Warangal, and Sadashivpet, Telangana, resulting in the seizure of incriminating documents. The investigation is ongoing.
In a related development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana apprehended a Tahsildar and a Mandal Surveyor in Rangareddy district while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Tahsildar Chintakindi Lalitha and Mandal Surveyor Kota Ravi had demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant to finalize land registration and rectify typographical errors in land records pertaining to the complainant's grandmother's property. They were caught while receiving the remaining amount after previously accepting Rs 50,000.
In another incident, the ACB detained B. Ramesh, a Senior Assistant at the Tandur Municipality in Rangareddy district, for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 to allocate a house number for a shed constructed by the complainant in Tandur.
