Hyderabad, March 30 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained two persons, including a senior official of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and a representative from a private firm, for accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 in return for facilitating the approval of gas cylinder manufacturing.

The detentions occurred in Hyderabad after a successful sting operation.

The arrested parties comprise the Scientific Officer-D/Joint Director from the BIS office in Vijayawada, located in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, and a representative from a private company based in Bengaluru.

This private company was pursuing BIS approval for 12,500 cylinders it was producing. The bribe was purportedly solicited from the BIS official to accelerate the approval process, thereby providing an unfair advantage to the firm.

On Sunday, the CBI initiated a case against the three individuals involved: the BIS officer, the private company representative, and the quality in-charge of the same company, alongside other unidentified public officials and private entities implicated in the corruption. The suspects had reportedly been demanding a bribe from the company in exchange for facilitating the approval process, which prompted the CBI to set a trap.

The suspects were apprehended during the bribery transaction in Hyderabad, where the CBI confiscated the Rs 70,000 bribe amount from the BIS official. Both individuals are currently in custody and are set to appear before the Special Court of CBI cases in Vijayawada on Monday.

Following the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at the residential and official locations of the BIS officer in both Hyderabad and Vijayawada, resulting in the discovery of incriminating documents.

Sources indicated that the materials recovered from these locations would be pivotal in proving the crime.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the CBI committed to unraveling the complete extent of the corruption.
