New Delhi, Oct 13 (NationPress) A Special CBI Court has sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment for the 2015 murder of software engineer Ankit Chauhan in Noida, according to an official report.
The court upheld the CBI's charges against Shashank Jadon and Manoj Kumar, imposing a fine of Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 on the respective convicts.
This sentencing is a result of a verdict rendered on September 20, which found both men guilty of murdering Chauhan on April 13, 2015, in Noida Sector 76. The victim was tragically shot while seated in his Fortuner.
The CBI took charge of the investigation upon the directive of the Allahabad High Court, registering a new case on June 14, 2016.
Following a thorough investigation, the CBI apprehended the suspects, Shashank Jadon on June 1, 2017, and Manoj Kumar on June 2, 2017.
A chargesheet was subsequently submitted against them for murder, attempted robbery, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence on August 29, 2017, in the Jurisdictional Court at Ghaziabad.
The Supreme Court transferred the trial from Ghaziabad to New Delhi on August 2, 2019.
Jadon, a graduate of Delhi College of Engineering, had previously claimed to the Noida police that he was contracted for a car robbery by a man named Satyapal.
The tragic murder occurred just 34 days following Ankit's marriage, stirring up various conspiracy theories regarding the potential involvement of his family members.
During the investigation, the CBI announced a Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone providing information about the murder.
Ankit’s father, Dharamveer Chauhan, expressed concerns regarding the state police's investigative process, prompting him to petition the High Court to transfer the case to the federal agency.
