Chennai, Feb 27 (NationPress) Chennaiyin FC is set to encounter a formidable challenge at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar as they go head-to-head with Odisha FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 this Sunday. The Marina Machans are eager to secure their inaugural victory of the season.

In their last meeting, a stellar performance from Farukh Choudhary led Chennaiyin to a memorable win. Historically, the Marina Machans have achieved two victories, one loss, and two draws against the Juggernauts in their last five encounters, with the last match in Kalinga marking a significant away win after 569 days.

Head coach Clifford Miranda has emphasized the necessity for his team to be at their best for this challenging away game, especially given that the hosts are yet to secure a win this season.

“Having previously worked with Odisha FC and contributed to their title success, I hold them in high regard. Their recent performance against Inter Kashi was commendable. This Sunday’s match will be extremely tough. If my team fails to match their drive and intensity, we might find ourselves in a difficult situation. It's crucial that we align our ambition with theirs,” Miranda noted during the pre-match press briefing.

This match also provides Chennaiyin another chance to kickstart their campaign for ISL 2026. Despite a rocky beginning, Miranda reassured that the squad is confident and believes in the path they are following.

Indian forward Farukh Choudhary also joined Miranda at the press conference, sharing insights on the learning experience under the head coach. He expressed optimism about the team’s growth and unity in the near future.

“I am gaining valuable tactical insights, including movement and decision-making. Coach Miranda's strategies are exceptional, and I am thoroughly enjoying my time here. I believe we will turn our fortunes around soon,” he stated.

“Team unity will develop over time. Each player has a unique mindset shaped by various coaching styles, and adapting takes time. However, we are making progress and learning to implement new strategies in our gameplay. The team spirit is strong, and we’re committed to following our plan for upcoming matches,” he added.

The upcoming match in Odisha will mark Chennaiyin's third consecutive away game at the beginning of the ISL 2026 season. They will return to the road for their fourth away fixture against rivals Kerala Blasters in the Southern Derby on March 7.
