Chennaiyin FC will close out their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season at home, hosting Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday evening. The Marina Machans, despite a difficult campaign, are determined to deliver a winning send-off for their home supporters.

Miranda's Assessment of Bengaluru FC

Head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda addressed the media at his pre-match press conference on Friday, acknowledging the threat posed by Bengaluru. 'I think they are a good team with a new coach. Initially, when the new coach came in, they had some issues adapting, which is normal, but I think they are better now. They play similarly to us, they want the ball, they want control in midfield, and they crowd the central areas with a lot of players. They overload the midfield, and I think that will be one of the key challenges for us,' Miranda said.

He also noted Bengaluru's recent form, pointing out their victory over Jamshedpur FC — a result that was historic in itself. 'They won their last game against Jamshedpur, and no one had beaten Jamshedpur in Jamshedpur before that, so they are on a good run. But again, like I said, this is our home ground, and we will fight. That is for sure,' he added.

A Season of Metrics Without Points

Miranda was candid in his assessment of Chennaiyin's campaign, describing it as the club's most difficult season. The Marina Machans have ranked among the stronger sides in the league across several statistical categories — including possession across all thirds of the pitch, vertical progression, penalty-box entries, and chance creation — yet their poor conversion rate in front of goal has cost them crucial points.

'The club has a rich history and has always been among the top sides. This season has been the most difficult, and for me, I am the first person to take responsibility because it was my job from the onset,' Miranda said. 'I can honestly say that I tried with everything I had. You can see it in the data and the numbers as well — we posted some really good statistics in several areas. But statistics and data do not necessarily give you points.'

Prakadeswaran's Breakthrough Season

Academy graduate S Prakadeswaran, 19, joined Miranda at the press conference, reflecting on a breakthrough campaign that saw him score his first senior goal against Jamshedpur FC. The youngster, who progressed directly from the club's U13 setup to the first team, credited Miranda and his teammates for his development.

'The beginning was tough, but over time I worked hard in training and learnt a lot from the coach. He spoke to me about how he used to play, gave me examples, and explained what I have to be like. It helped me and I have developed my game a lot,' Prakadeswaran said. He also spoke of the unexpected warmth from supporters: 'I didn't expect this much support from the fans. A lot of fans messaged me personally to show their support. Their chants and encouragement when I'm entering the pitch give me confidence.'

Injury and Suspension Blows for the Hosts

Miranda confirmed that Chennaiyin will head into the final match without several key players. Elsinho, Mohammed Ali Bemammer, Laldinliana Renthlei, Vivek S, and Vignesh Dakshinamurthy are all sidelined through injury, while Alberto Noguera will miss the match through suspension. The absentees represent a significant blow to the squad's depth for what is otherwise a low-stakes but pride-driven occasion.

With the season effectively concluded in terms of standings, the final whistle on Saturday will also mark a moment of reflection for a club that once set the standard in Indian club football.
