ISL: Chennaiyin's Head Coach Aims for Another Victory

Chennai, Feb 23 (NationPress) Chennaiyin FC is set to hit the road for the last time this regular season, facing off against Bengaluru FC at Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Tuesday. The Marina Machans are also targeting their third consecutive victory before they return to the Marina Arena for the league's final matches.

In a media interaction held in Chennai on Sunday, head coach Owen Coyle reflected on the earlier match and outlined the strategy for a strong season finish.

“What transpired previously does not dictate our future. Each game is unique. Our goal is to win, plain and simple. We must defend robustly against a strong Bengaluru team. We acknowledge their talent, but we’ve been performing well recently and are determined to secure another win. Achieving this will open up further opportunities,” Coyle stated.

“We recognize that when we perform at our peak, victories are within reach. Our recent away games have proven this. We triumphed in Odisha, NorthEast, Jamshedpur, and East Bengal. We have the ability to succeed in significant venues, and we aim to replicate that,” he continued.

Chennaiyin currently holds the fifth spot in the away standings this season, with four wins and two draws on the road. As they prepare to face Bengaluru, Coach Coyle praised the team’s away performance and expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support.

“For our last away game, I hope it mirrors our first away match (against Odisha), which we won. Our performance away in the league has been commendable. However, our home results have been disappointing, impacting us. We aim to finish powerfully; winning at Bengaluru is crucial for keeping our hopes alive. We intend to approach the match positively and strive to win a challenging game,” Coyle remarked. “To all the fans who have traveled to support us, thank you. We cherish your backing, and we are committed to giving our utmost effort to secure a win, finish strongly away, and prepare for the two remaining home fixtures.”

Joining Coyle at the press conference was forward Irfan Yadwad, who has had a breakout season across various attacking positions. When asked about his preferred role, Irfan expressed comfort in any position on the field and appreciated Coyle’s faith in him.

“I am extremely grateful to the coach for the trust he has placed in me this season. I feel very happy. I don’t have a specific position; I simply want to play,” Irfan said, adding his desire to conclude the season successfully with Chennaiyin and then focus on representing the national team.

In conclusion, Coyle confirmed that aside from Laldinliana Renthlei, who recently underwent successful shoulder surgery, he will have a fully fit squad ready for the match.
