Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) In a major preventive policing initiative, the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District apprehended a known member of the infamous 'Chenu Gang' on Friday, seizing a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from him.
The arrest occurred due to careful surveillance and a strategically coordinated intelligence operation, effectively averting a potential crime.
The East District Police reported that the suspect was stopped while moving through the area, suspected of planning a robbery. Acting on specific and real-time intelligence, the police team set a strategic trap and successfully detained him before he could carry out any criminal plans. This prompt action by the AATS not only led to the confiscation of an illegal weapon but also safeguarded public safety.
In response to the increasing criminal activities, AATS/East District has been instructed to enhance monitoring and take stringent measures against those involved in illegal arms possession and organized crime. A specialized team was formed under Inspector Pawan Yadav, with close oversight from ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar. The team comprised Sub Inspector Sandeep, ASI Satyaveer, ASI Deepak Tyagi, ASI Munender, Head Constable Krishan, and HC Sandeep, who were all actively involved in gathering intelligence and field surveillance.
Based on credible insights regarding the movements of a suspicious individual associated with the 'Chenu Gang' and allegedly armed, the team acted promptly and effectively. Upon searching the suspect, they recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges. During intense questioning, it was revealed that he is a functioning member of the gang, offering logistical support to its operations.
Further inquiries indicated that the suspect had ties with Shezad, a known robber implicated in several recent robbery incidents across Delhi. Shezad was previously arrested by the Shahdara District Police on March 22 and is currently in judicial custody, facing police remand for a robbery case registered under FIR No. 86/26 dated March 17, at Krishna Nagar Police Station. The current suspect is also a co-accused with Shezad in a theft case.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to being in the area with the intention of committing a robbery at gunpoint. However, his scheme was thwarted by the swift response of the police. Following this, a case under FIR No. 199/26 dated April 1 was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at New Ashok Nagar Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing.
Police officials stated that efforts are continuing to trace the source of the illegal firearm and to dismantle the supply chain supporting such weapons. This arrest underscores the East District Police’s dedication to proactive policing and ensuring public safety.
The accused has a history of involvement in six criminal cases related to theft and illegal arms possession, documented at various police stations including Seelampur, Lodhi Colony, Jaffrabad, Mandawali, and Farsh Bazar.
