New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) In a notable operation aimed at preventive policing, the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of East District successfully captured a known member of the infamous 'Chenu Gang', recovering a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.

This arrest was the result of vigilant surveillance and a meticulously organized intelligence-led operation, effectively averting a potentially grave crime.

The East District Police reported that the suspect was detained while moving through the area with the apparent intention to commit robbery. Reacting to real-time intelligence, the police team set a tactical trap and apprehended him before he could engage in any unlawful activity. The prompt intervention by AATS not only resulted in the confiscation of an illegal weapon but also mitigated a possible threat to public safety.

In light of the recent surge in criminal activities, AATS/East District has been instructed to ramp up surveillance and take stringent measures against individuals engaged in illegal arms possession and organized crime. A specialized team was assembled under the guidance of Inspector Pawan Yadav and close supervision of ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar. This team included Sub Inspector Sandeep, ASI Satyaveer, ASI Deepak Tyagi, ASI Munender, Head Constable Krishan, and HC Sandeep, who were actively involved in intelligence collection and field surveillance.

Acting on credible information regarding the movements of a suspicious individual associated with the 'Chenu Gang' and reportedly carrying illegal firearms, the team moved decisively. Upon searching, they recovered one country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the suspect. During detailed questioning, he admitted to being an active gang member who provides logistical support to its associates.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspect has connections with Shezad, a notorious robber implicated in several recent robbery cases across Delhi. Shezad was previously detained by Shahdara District Police on March 22 and is currently in judicial custody. He remains under police remand related to a robbery case logged under FIR No. 86/26 dated March 17 at Krishna Nagar Police Station. The suspect in this case is also a co-accused alongside Shezad in a theft case.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was in the vicinity with plans to execute a robbery at gunpoint. However, his scheme was thwarted due to the swift action of the police team. Consequently, a case under FIR No. 199/26 dated April 1, invoking Section 25 of the Arms Act, has been filed at New Ashok Nagar Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing.

Police officials have stated that efforts are underway to trace the source of the illegal firearm and dismantle the supply network behind such weapons. This arrest underscores the East District Police’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing and safeguarding public safety.

The apprehended individual has a history of involvement in six criminal cases linked to theft and illegal arms possession, reported at various police stations, including Seelampur, Lodhi Colony, Jaffrabad, Mandawali, and Farsh Bazar.
