Bhopal, July 26 (NationPress) Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday launched a fierce critique of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, asserting that his recent apology regarding the caste census represents a belated acknowledgment following years of the party's negligence towards the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
Chouhan's comments followed Gandhi's admission during the 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' for the OBC community that not conducting a caste census previously was a mistake on his part.
Gandhi stated, "I regret that if I had been more aware of your history and issues, I would have ensured the caste census was conducted. That is my fault, not Congress's. I am committed to rectifying that mistake now."
In response, Chouhan remarked to reporters, "Rahul Gandhi always grasps things too late. First, he apologized for the Emergency, then for the 1984 Sikh riots, and now to the OBC community. But what tangible support has Congress ever offered to the OBCs?"
"They should clarify who delayed the Mandal Commission report. Congress has continually suppressed initiatives for OBC welfare, only to issue apologies after the harm is done," he emphasized.
The Union Minister further commented, "He (Rahul Gandhi) even apologized regarding Rafale. Mark my words, in ten years, he will be apologizing again for today's actions. Apology seems to be his fate."
On the occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chouhan also paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces, commending their bravery and sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
"I bow to the valor of our soldiers. Their courage deserves our respect. Failing to honor these heroes undermines the essence of heroism. I salute those who made the ultimate sacrifice during Kargil," he stated.
Taking a jab at the Congress party, Chouhan stated, "During the UPA tenure, Congress neglected to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. One of their MPs even claimed that the war was fought under an NDA government—as if wars belong to political parties instead of the nation. I challenge them: Is any war the property of a political party, or is it a matter of national security?"
He further accused Congress of undermining the success of Operation Sindoor.
"Their mindset is bordering on anti-national. In opposing the Prime Minister, they are inadvertently opposing the country itself. Their statements are echoed by Pakistan, which cites them on international platforms. Yet, we remain humbled by the valor of our armed forces," Chouhan concluded.
