The meeting between Chouhan, a four-time former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, and his successor Mohan Yadav has piqued interest and speculation within the state's political circles.
Chouhan, who held the chief minister position for over 16 years and is affectionately referred to as ‘Mama’ due to his popular initiatives like the ‘Ladli Laxmi Yojana’, which provides financial assistance for newborn girls, was succeeded by Mohan Yadav after the BJP triumphed in the Assembly elections in Nov-Dec 2023.
It is noteworthy that the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’, which allocates Rs 1500 monthly to over 1.25 crore women in Madhya Pradesh, was initiated during Chouhan’s tenure in 2023.
The scheme began with a monthly installment of Rs 1,000 for beneficiaries. However, Mohan Yadav later increased this amount to Rs 1500 starting in October of the previous year. Chief Minister Yadav has also indicated plans to further enhance the amount to Rs 3,000 per month by 2028.
