New Delhi/Jaipur, June 27 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday delivered a strong message to those engaged in the production and distribution of fake or inferior fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides.
Supporting Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena's recent initiative to combat industries and factories responsible for creating fraudulent agricultural products, Chouhan stated that the government will enact rigorous regulations to eliminate such unethical practices and ensure fairness for farmers.
Commenting on the operations executed in Rajasthan, the Union Minister declared: “We will not forgive those who manufacture fake seeds and fertilizers.”
“Raids have already taken place in Rajasthan. We are working on implementing strict laws to confront this issue. Additionally, we need to develop tools to identify counterfeit agricultural products,” he added.
Earlier this week, Kirodi Lal Meena reached out to the Union Minister advocating for a robust legal framework to address the increasing instances of fake and poor-quality agricultural inputs.
In response to these concerns, Chouhan recognized the dilemmas faced by farmers, asserting: “Farmers find it challenging to distinguish between genuine and fake products when purchasing medicines, fertilizers, or pesticides. It is our duty to guarantee they receive authentic products.”
Following Chouhan’s public declaration, Kirodi Lal Meena expressed his contentment and announced that the current campaign in Rajasthan would be escalated.
In a post on the social media platform X, Meena remarked: “This declaration by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will significantly enhance our campaign against substandard seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides in Rajasthan. Those deceiving farmers will face consequences. I am pleased that stringent legislation is being developed – this is precisely what I had requested.”
Describing the sale of counterfeit agricultural inputs as a “serious conspiracy” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective to double farmers' incomes, Meena stressed the necessity to expose every individual involved in this illicit trade.
Recently, Kirodi Lal Meena spearheaded raids on factories producing fake agricultural products in several locations, including Jaipur, Udaipur, and Sri Ganganagar. Warehouses were shut down and samples were collected for analysis.
The coordinated effort between the central government and the Rajasthan government signifies a more robust national crackdown on the manufacturing and distribution of fake agricultural inputs, aimed at protecting farmer interests and enhancing agricultural productivity.
