Shivraj Chouhan Urges Officials to Guarantee High-Quality Fertilisers, Seeds, and Pesticides for Farmers

New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has instructed officials to ensure that the nation's farmers receive high-quality fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides under all circumstances.

During a review session of his ministry, Shivraj Singh Chouhan pointed out that farmers frequently report issues with receiving substandard inputs, leading to substantial losses.

He emphasized the need for officials to establish robust measures to effectively combat the distribution of fake or inferior pesticides, fertilisers, and seeds.

The Union Minister instructed officers to take strict and effective action against the offenders for the greater benefit of the farmers.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan also mentioned that he would soon engage with state governments to ensure continuous effective action at the state level. Those found guilty should face severe penalties to deter such serious offenses.

During the review, it was revealed that many states are not taking adequate action even during investigations and prosecutions. Most offenders either go free or receive minimal punishment.

The Minister stated that he would also consult with the Chief Ministers and Agriculture Ministers of states to initiate effective measures regarding this issue.

In the case of substandard fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides, stringent actions should be enforced against major sellers and manufacturers, utilizing existing laws and regulations effectively.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan added that all relevant departments should collaboratively launch a campaign to ensure the quality of pesticides and fertilisers.

The Union Minister directed officials to formulate an action plan for a joint campaign that can be implemented efficiently by state governments nationwide, ensuring no delays in addressing the concerns of crores of farmers.

He also highlighted the importance of gathering inputs from farmers since their crops suffer due to the usage of poor-quality inputs, directly affecting their incomes.

The Union Minister reiterated that with the upcoming crop season in mind, farmers should receive relief on this front.

For this purpose, he will soon engage in discussions with Chief Ministers and Ministers of the states, as effective measures need to be prioritized at the state level.
