Bangkok, Dec 14 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Thai army expressed strong condemnation regarding Cambodia's assault on civilian neighborhoods in Si Sa Ket Province, which resulted in the death of one Thai civilian. A spokesperson for the Thai army confirmed that no ceasefire arrangements are being considered at this time.
According to a statement from the Royal Thai Army, Cambodian forces launched BM-21 rockets targeting a civilian area and a school zone in Si Sa Ket Province. The attack led to the death of one civilian due to shrapnel and ignited a fire in a residential home.
The army firmly denounced Cambodia's actions, which have involved targeting civilian locations unrelated to military engagements over two consecutive days, leading to civilian casualties, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
As for ceasefire discussions, Royal Thai Army Spokesperson Winthai Suvaree indicated that the current situation does not permit any ceasefire agreements. He explained that the ongoing attacks on Thai military posts and civilian areas by Cambodia create a significant security risk for Thailand. Military operations will persist until Cambodia halts all aggressive actions.
In the meantime, Thailand's military declared a curfew in select areas of Trat Province due to the escalating situation along the border. An official directive stated that a curfew is now in effect in five districts—Khlong Yai, Bo Rai, Laem Ngop, Khao Saming, and Mueang Trat—prohibiting residents from leaving their homes from 19:00 to 05:00 the next day.
Thai media reported that this announcement followed an incident on Saturday night when three M79 grenades were fired at the Marine Corps Task Force headquarters in Trat Province, believed to have originated from within Thailand. Fortunately, no injuries occurred as the grenades landed in uninhabited areas.
This curfew marks the second province affected since the recent escalation of clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. A curfew had already been enacted in four border districts of Sa Kaeo Province on Wednesday.
