Mumbai, Nov 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, emphasized on Monday that public universities must put forth significant efforts to enhance their national and international standings in addition to their academic quality. To facilitate this, a digital dashboard should be established for the effective monitoring of each university.
During a meeting with Vice Chancellors and Pro-Vice Chancellors, Fadnavis reviewed the execution of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 initiative.
He urged the formulation of an action plan along with a time-bound strategy to boost the rankings of universities at both national and international levels, recommending a thorough introspection of the current status.
The state government is committed to providing all necessary support to develop an online dashboard that will accelerate this initiative.
“In today's competitive global landscape, universities should strive to create more job opportunities by enhancing educational quality and fostering skilled manpower. This can be achieved through partnerships with the industry sector, as well as offering internships, apprenticeships, and skill-based courses aimed at job creation. With private universities advancing rapidly, it is crucial for public institutions to prioritize quality,” stated the Chief Minister.
He called for dedicated efforts to elevate the rankings of public universities according to NIRF rankings, aiming to position Maharashtra as a prominent global education hub, curtail student migration out of the state, attract NRI and international students, and foster high-TRL (Technology Readiness Level) research alongside commercially viable patents. Additionally, he emphasized on enhancing educational standards in colleges to prepare students for the global job market.
Moreover, he highlighted the necessity of aligning curricula with the anticipated skills and knowledge demands of future employment while leveraging university resources for global collaborations.
During the event, B Venugopal Reddy, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher and Technical Department, presented the goals of public universities in relation to the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 mission, focusing on improving the NIRF rankings of state universities and enhancing educational facilities.
