New Delhi, Nov 1 (NationPress) State-owned oil marketing firms have slashed the prices of commercial LPG cylinders across major metropolitan areas, providing a bit of relief to businesses starting Saturday.

This adjustment will offer slight support to numerous small and medium enterprises.

As per the latest update from state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs), the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi is now Rs 1,590.50, marking a Rs 5 reduction from the former rate of Rs 1,595.50.

With the largest drop of Rs 6.50 per cylinder in the metros, Kolkata's new price is Rs 1,694. In Chennai, the cost is now Rs 1,750 (a decrease of Rs 4.50), while Mumbai's price is Rs 1,542 (down Rs 5).

For businesses heavily reliant on LPG for daily operations, such as restaurants, hotels, and catering services, this recent price adjustment offers a slight reprieve following a Rs 15.50 hike that took effect in late September.

It’s worth noting that domestic LPG prices have remained unchanged and are consistent across all cities.

Previously, in September, OMCs had reduced the cost of commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 51.50, resulting in a 19-kg cylinder being priced at Rs 1,580 in Delhi.

Before this, OMCs had decreased the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder by Rs 33.50. Earlier in July, prices had dropped by Rs 58.50.

In June, oil companies announced a Rs 24 reduction for commercial cylinders, bringing the rate to Rs 1,723.50. The price was Rs 1,762 in April, and February saw a small Rs 7 drop, which was slightly reversed in March with a Rs 6 increase.

Additionally, the government has announced the provision of 2.5 million free LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the festive season.

Point of View

This reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices comes as a timely relief for many small and medium businesses that have been struggling with recent price hikes. While it offers temporary respite, the government’s ongoing initiatives like the PMUY continue to support households and businesses alike, showcasing a commitment to enhancing energy accessibility and affordability.
