Congress Critiques BJP After Court Acquits Kejriwal and Sisodia in Liquor Case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) On Friday, the Congress party launched a strong critique against the BJP following a Delhi court's decision to acquit former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy scandal.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera accused the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of having a covert political alliance, suggesting that they support one another when it benefits their agendas.
In a statement on X, Khera asserted that actions against the BJP’s “convenient allies” in AAP would “quietly disappear” as the elections in Gujarat and Punjab draw near.
“This is the BJP's strategy: Vendetta as governance and agencies as campaign instruments,” Khera stated, who is also the head of the Media and Publicity Department of the AICC.
He further labeled the BJP as a “shape-shifter” and a “wishful serpent -- Icchadhari Naag,” claiming that the party would stop at nothing to fulfill its political goal of a “Congress-mukt Bharat.”
“For over a decade, they have been disparaging the Trinamool. And now? Narendra Modi himself is praising it—not out of reverence, but to deliver a cheap jab at Congress,” Khera continued.
The Congress leader also noted that with elections on the horizon, cases against Congress leaders would “suddenly escalate.”
Referring to former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, Khera mentioned that he has been “pulled back into the limelight” as Tamil Nadu approaches its elections.
Senior Congress figure Sandeep Dikshit, in a discussion with IANS, commented that if the judicial process is allowed to unfold completely, the truth will eventually surface.
“The dynamic between the BJP and the AAP is political, and they assist one another. The BJP has historically believed that as long as the AAP exists, forming a government in Delhi would be impossible,” Dikshit said.
Earlier, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi declined to frame charges against Kejriwal, Sisodia, and others involved in the corruption case related to the now-repealed 2021-22 excise policy.
By granting their discharge requests, the court determined that there was inadequate evidence during the investigation to proceed against the accused, concluding that no criminal offense, including conspiracy, was established.
