Tejashwi Yadav Calls for Fresh Delhi Elections After Court Acquits Kejriwal and Sisodia
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 27 (NationPress) Following the acquittal of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and 21 others by the Rouse Avenue Court in the alleged liquor policy scam, RJD National Working President Tejashwi Yadav has called for new elections for the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
Addressing reporters at Patna airport, Yadav stated that the court's ruling has demonstrated that the allegations in the so-called liquor scam have been unfounded.
“The verdict from the Rouse Avenue Court has unveiled the true nature of the central government, which has been leveraging constitutional bodies to target Opposition leaders through political vendetta. The elections in Delhi were fought on the basis of the liquor scam, and Arvind Kejriwal was unfairly attacked to sway public opinion. Now that the charges have been discredited, it is imperative to hold elections in Delhi focused on real issues,” Yadav remarked.
He further accused the central government of abusing investigative agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Directorate of Enforcement, and the Income Tax Department to implicate Opposition leaders.
Yadav emphasized that the court had raised significant concerns regarding the CBI's investigation into the liquor policy matter, arguing that the case carries substantial political ramifications.
“Thanks to this fabricated case, Arvind Kejriwal suffered electoral defeat. Who is accountable for that? I am advocating for re-elections in Delhi based on genuine issues,” he asserted.
Tejashwi Yadav also alleged that numerous Opposition figures, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, have been victims of what he labels as political vendetta.
In reference to the IRCTC land-for-jobs case, he pointed out that investigative agencies had previously cleared the individuals involved and questioned the rationale behind reopening the investigation.
“The CBI had examined this matter three times before and found no wrongdoing. Nevertheless, the case has resurfaced. This exemplifies the BJP's approach to politics,” Yadav charged.
As of now, the central government and the BJP have not responded to Yadav's statements.
This situation is likely to amplify the political discourse surrounding the utilization of investigative agencies and broader issues of political accountability.
The acquittal and the ensuing political responses may have significant implications for the national political landscape, especially with upcoming Assembly elections in various states.
