Satna, March 28 (NationPress) Internal strife among top Congress leaders has been a significant factor keeping the party out of power in Madhya Pradesh for nearly two decades, with the exception of an 18-month tenure under the Kamal Nath government, asserted party leader Ajay Singh.

Ajay Singh, a seven-time MLA representing the Churhat Assembly seat in Sidhi district and the son of former Chief Minister Arjun Singh, conveyed this message while addressing party workers in Satna district on Thursday.

"I urge Congress members to unite and cease their internal disputes. The party has not held power in Madhya Pradesh for over 20 years, and these internal conflicts have played a crucial role in that outcome," Ajay emphasized.

Notably, the Congress MLA made these comments in the presence of state party president Jitu Patwari and state in-charge Harish Choudhary. This meeting was part of the party's strategy to revitalize its base in various regions following consecutive electoral defeats in the state.

During his address to the assembly of party workers and leaders, Ajay noted that Harish Choudhary was the first general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh to meet him personally, which surprised the party's senior leadership.

Ajay criticized the party for rarely organizing large-scale events, claiming this lackadaisical approach from state leadership has led to the demotivation of grassroots workers.

He further remarked that visits from senior leaders to this region are infrequent.

It is important to note that until about a decade ago, the Vindhya region was a bastion for the Congress.

In the recent Assembly elections held in November 2023, the BJP claimed victory in 25 out of 30 seats in the Vindhya region, which includes districts like Rewa, Sidhi, Satna, Maihar, Mauganj, Shahdol, Umaria, and Singrauli.

Highlighting the internal discord within the state Congress, Ajay recalled his 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign in Satna, stating, "Everyone here on stage knows the reasons behind my electoral defeat. It is in the past now, but senior leaders must put an end to their infighting."
