Patna, April 2 (NationPress) Congress MLA Izharul Hussain asserted on Wednesday that he would take his own life if the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 is approved, which is currently under discussion in Parliament.

“The Central government aims to seize minority property. Waqf property is sacred and serves the underprivileged. If this legislation is enacted, I will end my life,” Hussain stated while speaking with reporters in Kishanganj.

Hussain has threatened significant protests if the Bill is passed in Parliament.

“If necessary, I will travel from Kishanganj to Parliament to halt this Bill. This is not merely a minority concern - temples, gurudwaras, and churches could also face similar threats in the future,” he warned.

The MLA accused the Union government of engaging in divisive politics ahead of elections.

“They lack a development agenda. They propose such bills to divert public attention. Previously, they introduced anti-farmer laws, which we also opposed,” Hussain added.

Hussain emphasized that Waqf properties are donations intended for social welfare.

“Now, the government is targeting Allah’s property to seize it and transfer it to industrialists,” he stated.

The bill has ignited a significant political divide, particularly in Bihar, where parties are taking firm stances for and against it.

The Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) in Bihar has pledged to resist the Bill.

Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav remarked, “We will strongly contest this Bill in Parliament. It undermines minorities and social justice.”

Congress officials also indicated that they would reject this Bill and stand with those opposing it.

The Janata Dal-United officially backs the Bill despite some dissent among Muslim leaders within the party.

The LJP-Ram Vilas has instructed its MPs to support the Bill.

Hindustani Awam Morcha leader Jitan Ram Manjhi has endorsed the Bill and criticized Lalu Yadav for his earlier comments on Waqf.

The Rashtriya Lok Morcha, led by Upendra Kushwaha, has also supported the bill.
