Bengaluru, June 26 (NationPress) The Congress party's Karnataka division held a demonstration on Thursday against the BJP for a social media post that likened former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Adolf Hitler, subsequently filing an FIR regarding this issue.

The High Grounds police in Bengaluru have initiated an FIR against the BJP's IT cell for reportedly employing derogatory language towards the late Prime Minister. This FIR is lodged under Sections 192 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

Congress representatives asserted that the post has the potential to provoke social discord.

The demonstrators insisted on prompt action against the Karnataka BJP's social media team for disrespecting Indira Gandhi by misrepresenting her image while claiming to critique the Emergency. They demanded the immediate removal of the objectionable content and the detention of those accountable.

The protest was spearheaded by S. Manohar, General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

"This protest took place outside the BJP's central office to denounce the shameful actions of the party's social media wing, which insulted our former Prime Minister and fearless leader Indira Gandhi by juxtaposing her image with that of Hitler," stated Manohar.

He further expressed that while BJP leaders may commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Emergency and possess the right to contest it, such rights should not extend to personal insults or historical inaccuracies.

"Indira Gandhi was a leader who dedicated her life for the nation, led India to triumph over Pakistan, and earned respect for the country. Drawing comparisons between her and Hitler is not only intolerable but also an affront to every woman in this nation," he emphasized.

Touching on recent terrorist incidents, he remarked, "India consistently states that Pakistan is culpable for the casualties of innocent civilians in the Pehalgam terror attack. It was Indira Gandhi who led the battle against Pakistan and compelled their Army to surrender to Indian forces."

He cautioned that should the accused not be apprehended promptly, the Congress would persist in their protests outside the BJP office.

Point of View

The incident underscores the importance of respectful discourse in political dialogue. Comparing historical figures to notorious leaders can undermine the seriousness of past events and provoke unnecessary tensions. The Congress party's response reflects a commitment to upholding the legacy of Indira Gandhi while demanding accountability from opposing parties. Such actions highlight the ongoing relevance of political narratives in shaping public opinion and social stability.
