Hyderabad, Nov 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, expressed strong confidence on Sunday that the Congress Party will continue to govern the state for another eight years.
He stated emphatically, "Remember this - Congress will hold power until June 2034 in Telangana," while addressing reporters during the Meet the Press event organized by the Hyderabad Press Club.
During his address, Revanth Reddy highlighted the significant development initiatives undertaken by his administration over the past two years, expressing optimism about the party securing a renewed mandate.
He also forecasted that the upcoming Assembly elections would not occur in December 2028. Instead, he predicted they would take place in June 2029, coinciding with simultaneous elections for all state assemblies and the Lok Sabha.
According to Revanth Reddy, Telangana experienced substantial growth during the Congress era in the former united Andhra Pradesh and has continued to thrive under the "People's Government" since 2023.
The Chief Minister criticized the previous BRS administration, led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), claiming that he damaged Telangana during his decade in office.
He recounted that when KCR took office in 2014, Telangana had a surplus budget of Rs 16,000 crore, but left the Congress government with a staggering debt exceeding Rs 8.11 lakh crore by 2023.
Revanth Reddy condemned KCR for investing in grand structures like the Command Control, Secretariat, and Pragathi Bhavan while failing to create job opportunities. He remarked that KCR spent Rs 1 lakh crore on the Kaleshwaram project without irrigating a single acre, and that the BRS government wasted Rs 1.85 lakh crore on irrigation efforts that yielded no results.
The CM alleged that the previous administration harmed educational institutions by neglecting to appoint Vice Chancellors and closing down 5,000 schools. He noted the lack of progress in building new facilities for Osmania Hospital and the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS).
Revanth Reddy also commented on K. T. Rama Rao, BRS Working President, asserting that he is not destined to be Chief Minister. He likened KCR’s behavior towards his son to that of Dhritarashtra, emphasizing that KTR's attempts to change directions through Vastu were futile.
He further accused KTR of being unfair to his sister, K. Kavitha, while making bold claims about the BRS candidate for Jubilee Hills bypoll, Maganti Sunitha, and her family.
The Chief Minister also targeted Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy for allegedly diverting Telangana projects to Gujarat, stating, "Kishan Reddy is acting as a slave to Gujarat and hindering Telangana's growth."
CM Revanth Reddy reiterated the close ties between BRS and BJP, questioning why the BJP-led central government has not initiated a CBI investigation into the Kaleshwaram project despite the state government's referral.
He pointed out that the Governor has not approved KTR's arrest in the Formula E race matter, despite the state government seeking permission three months ago.
He contended that due to Congress's efforts, Hyderabad has evolved into a leading IT and knowledge hub, attracting significant investments, including $1 billion from Eli Lilly, along with contributions from American Airlines and McDonald's.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that Hyderabad generates 40% of the bulk drug supply and serves as a crucial growth corridor for Telangana, providing 65% of the state's revenue. He mentioned that Rangareddy district boasts the highest per capita income in India, attributing this to proactive decisions made by Congress.
He stressed that the Congress government is responsible for distributing 25 lakh acres of assigned land and 10 lakh acres of Podu lands, implementing the slogan "Dhunne wadi ke bhoomi" (land for the tiller).
He acknowledged the significant role played by the late former Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy in the development of Hyderabad's Metro Rail project.
He noted that the current Congress government has invested Rs 7,100 crore in free bus travel for women, salvaged the RTC from financial losses, increased the Rajiv Aarogya Sri limit to Rs 10 lakhs, and is constructing a new building for Osmania Hospital at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore. Furthermore, the government is providing ration cards, offering cooking gas at Rs 500, and supplying 200 units of free power. The Congress administration also waived Rs 21,000 crores in farm loans and delivered Rs 9,000 crore in Rythu Bharosa benefits in just nine days. The People's Government conducted a BC caste census and prompted the Union government to announce a caste census alongside the national population census.
CM Revanth Reddy claimed that Telangana became the first state in India to implement Scheduled Caste sub-classification, founded a Young India Skills University, established a Police School, and created Young India Residential Schools. He also mentioned plans to channel 20 TMC of Godavari water to Hyderabad.
