Why is the Opposition Objecting to Vande Mataram?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) A political controversy has emerged regarding the performance of Vande Mataram, with various leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defending the national anthem on Friday. They emphasized that there should be no reservations against singing it in its entirety, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) stated its respect for the national song.
BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj expressed that Vande Mataram embodies love for the motherland and is not associated with any specific deity.
"Vande Mataram does not refer to any god. It represents the homeland where we are born, eat, drink, and live. A genuine patriot should not have any issues with Vande Mataram. It is the essence of India and should never be disrespected," he asserted.
In response to critics, Sakshi Maharaj remarked, "Those lacking their own agenda often oppose the BJP to such an extent that they start opposing the nation and even God."
BJP MP Mayank Nayak highlighted that the nation is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and questioned the objections raised by certain factions.
"When the government announced that the entire Vande Mataram would be sung, some individuals objected, even threatening to take the matter to the Supreme Court, which is unacceptable," he said.
Echoing these sentiments, BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra stated that there was no valid reason for the protests.
"What is there to oppose in this? It is our national song, and it played a crucial role in our independence. If the government and the Home Ministry have determined that all six stanzas should be sung, it should be adhered to," he added.
BJP MP Dinesh Sharma pointed out that the national song has historically been performed even after the Constitution was established.
"Everyone knows that Vande Mataram was sung in Parliament and during Congress sessions," he noted.
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske criticized the objections as being "politically motivated," accusing them of misleading voters.
Meanwhile, SP MP Anand Bhadauria stated, "I am not aware of any opposition. We all hold Vande Mataram in high regard."
