Wolverhampton, March 31 (NationPress) Following the declaration of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ key forward Matheus Cunha about his desire to ‘compete for titles’, manager Vitor Pereira stated that it is typical for a player of his caliber to possess such ambition.

Cunha is experiencing his most successful season in terms of goals, netting 13 times in 26 league matches while also contributing four assists.

"He understands his capabilities; he is a top-tier player. It’s natural for him to aspire to compete for honors, as is the case with many players. However, the priority is to remain dedicated and assist the team in meeting our objectives.

"At the conclusion of the season, we will evaluate. I cannot predict next season, nor can I anticipate what tomorrow holds. It’s best to concentrate on the upcoming match and the team," Pereira remarked during a press briefing.

The Portuguese coach was inquired whether his statements might lead to a diminished role for him.

"If training instills in me the confidence to utilize Cunha, I will include him because he possesses the ability to aid us. With goals and assists, at this moment, if he maintains the right mindset to stay focused and be with us, managing him is quite straightforward. If not, it’s up to me to make a decision," Pereira added.

The Brazilian forward admitted he was approached with offers to depart the club during the winter transfer period but believed leaving mid-season would not have been appropriate.

“I received numerous offers, but I wouldn’t have felt right doing so. Some factors are beyond your control, but I couldn’t abandon the club during a challenging phase, particularly while in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re on the verge of achieving our objective (of ensuring survival). However, I’ve made it known that I seek to progress further. I aspire to compete for titles and significant achievements. I am capable,” Cunha conveyed to The Guardian.
