London, March 21 (NationPress) The FA has handed Matheus Cunha an additional one-match suspension along with a £50,000 fine following his red card against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup fifth round earlier this month.
This suspension means that the Brazilian will miss Premier League matches against West Ham United and Ipswich Town, before making his return ahead of the top flight clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux.
According to a statement from the FA, "An independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a one-match suspension and £50,000 fine on Matheus Cunha. The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward was charged with acting in an improper manner after being sent off during the 121st minute of their FA Cup match against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday."
"The player admitted the charge, and the Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions after a hearing. The written reasons for their decision will be published in due course. Matheus Cunha will now be suspended from domestic football until Sunday, April 13," the FA's statement continued.
This is not the first time Cunha has faced disciplinary action this season; he previously received a two-game ban from the Football Association (FA) for 'misconduct' after an incident following a 1-2 defeat against Ipswich Town at Molineux Stadium on December 14.
In that incident, after the final whistle, Jack Taylor netted an injury-time winner for the visitors. Cunha elbowed a member of the Ipswich staff and even snatched his glasses off his face, leading to an £80,000 fine for that occurrence.
Cunha has been instrumental for Wolves this season, having netted 15 goals and provided four assists across all competitions, with 13 of those goals coming in the league.
