While addressing the media in Kalaburagi, CM Siddaramaiah remarked, "Concerning the robbery at the SBI Bank in Vijayapura and associated security worries, we have successfully tracked the vehicle used in the heist. The district SP has been directed to identify and apprehend the criminals involved. Relevant officials have also been told to remain alert."

"It is crucial for individual banks to hire their own security staff, while the police ensure overall security. The police have been instructed to adopt preventive measures to prevent such incidents from happening again," CM Siddaramaiah added.

The brazen robbery transpired on Tuesday evening at the SBI Bank branch located in Chadachana, Vijayapura district.

Initial investigations suggest that the culprits escaped with approximately Rs 1 crore in cash and 20 kilograms of gold from the bank.

An official statement from the bank regarding the exact amount of cash and gold stolen has yet to be released.

Police investigations have indicated that the suspects fled towards Pandharapura in the neighboring state of Maharashtra.

After executing their plan, the robbers took different routes to evade capture. They abandoned the vehicle used in the crime midway in a village after hitting a dead-end.

According to police reports, the robbers threatened bank employees and customers with a homemade pistol, looting cash and gold, which they carried away in bags.

At around 4 p.m., one of the robbers, a masked individual, entered the bank and waited for his accomplices to arrive. It is suspected that he had been monitoring the bank for several days to identify key areas.

By 6 p.m., the group of robbers stormed the bank. Meanwhile, two accomplices waited outside as the others restrained the bank staff and customers before executing the robbery. The ages of the robbers are believed to range from 20 to 30 years.

As news of the robbery spread rapidly, customers flocked to the bank on Wednesday morning to check on the safety of their gold jewelry, which had been pledged for loans and stored in lockers. Numerous elderly women and others were seen arguing with security and bank staff, demanding to speak with the manager.

Police are continuing their investigations.

Point of View
