New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) - In a recent Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has sanctioned a new policy aimed at providing compassionate employment opportunities to the families of individuals who tragically lost their lives during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.
"Our government is committed to making sure that no eligible family experiences further delays in receiving assistance. By creating employment pathways for the next generation, we aspire not only to deliver financial support but also to restore the dignity of these families," she stated.
This initiative by the Delhi government seeks to facilitate the economic rehabilitation of Sikh families who have been waiting for justice and support for over four decades.
In detailing the Cabinet's decision made on Wednesday, CM Gupta highlighted that this new policy signifies a tangible step towards accelerating the resolution of long-standing employment assistance cases that have remained unresolved since the Cabinet's directive in 2007.
She remarked that for the past 18 years, this process has been stalled due to various administrative hurdles.
"To eradicate this prolonged stagnation, the government has now introduced a clear, organized, and time-sensitive policy to guarantee that eligible families receive employment assistance without delay, ensuring that no rightful claimant is overlooked," she said.
According to the Chief Minister, a significant aspect of the new policy is that dependents of victims who are now above 50 years of age and unable to secure employment will have the option to nominate a family member from the next generation, such as a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, or son-in-law for the job.
This provision ensures that the employment benefits reach the family directly, fulfilling the intended purpose of assistance.
"This clause has been incorporated to acknowledge that many eligible dependents have now aged," she explained.
The Chief Minister also stated that necessary adjustments in age and educational qualifications have been included in the policy.
All provisions will align with the directives of the Hon’ble Delhi High Court and adhere to established legal standards. Furthermore, a transparent and well-defined system has been instituted for verification, grievance resolution, and departmental allocation to ensure that the appointment process is fair, accountable, and efficient, she added.
