New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) Approximately 1.5 crore eligible voters in Delhi have determined the fate of 699 candidates during the Assembly elections on Wednesday, as they aimed to elect a new 70-member House. Reports indicate a voter turnout of around 60 percent by 6 p.m., according to official sources.

The election results are expected to be announced on February 8.

As of 5 p.m., the turnout was recorded at 57.70 percent, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) striving for a fourth consecutive victory, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed to reclaim power since 1998.

The voting process lasted for 11 hours and was largely peaceful, although there were isolated reports of bogus voting and violations of the model code throughout the day.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the voter turnout was 62.82 percent, which is 4.65 percent lower than the 67.47 percent recorded in 2015.

Earlier, a minor disruption occurred at a polling booth in Seelampur when a fraudulent voter was apprehended for casting a ballot using another's identity. This incident took place at Aryan Public School, as reported by Booth Level Officer Gayatri.

BJP candidate Anil Gaur accused Congress and AAP of bringing in 300-400 fake voters from Uttar Pradesh.

In Central Delhi, Matia Mahal saw a turnout of 61.40 percent, while Ballimaran had 59.56 percent, Burari 56.16 percent, Sadar Bazar 57.06 percent, Timarpur 53.29 percent, Karol Bagh 47.40 percent, and Chandni Chowk 52.76 percent.

In West Delhi, the turnout by 5 p.m. in Janakpuri was 59.28 percent, Rajouri Garden 58.96 percent, Madipur 58.13 percent, Hari Nagar 57.92 percent, Moti Nagar 55.21 percent, Nangloi Jat 56.20 percent, and Tilak Nagar 56.65 percent.
