New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, announced on Thursday that within the last 24 hours, 3,746 vehicles in Delhi have been fined for lacking a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC).
The Minister emphasized that Delhi is vigorously addressing pollution from vehicles, dust, industries, and waste. He stated, “Our teams are tirelessly working around the clock—inspecting vehicles, managing dust, regulating polluting industries, and clearing historical waste. This comprehensive approach is essential to lower Delhi’s AQI permanently.”
He highlighted that the Delhi Government has ramped up its action plan to combat air pollution on four critical fronts—vehicle emissions, construction dust, industrial pollution, and waste management.
The enforcement of ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ and restrictions on the entry of non-Delhi vehicles below BS-VI standards are key strategies aimed at swiftly reducing particulate emissions under severe conditions.

On December 17, 29,938 PUCCs were issued, and by 5:20 PM on December 18, another 31,974 certificates were distributed, bringing the total to over 61,000 in just one day. The government anticipates this trend will persist as more vehicle owners secure PUCCs before refueling.
He urged residents, vehicle owners, businesses, and institutions to adhere to GRAP restrictions, work-from-home recommendations, and the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ policy to facilitate the relaxation of emergency measures as soon as possible.
On Thursday, Sirsa conducted surprise inspections at several petrol stations to evaluate the execution of the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule.
During his visits to stations at the Delhi-Gurugram border and Janpath, he engaged with staff and commuters.
He instructed the personnel to remain calm, polite, and cooperative while firmly enforcing the requirement of a valid PUCC for refueling.
“You are the frontline of this initiative. Avoid disputes with customers; kindly explain that this rule is for their health and the welfare of our children,” he instructed. He also emphasized the need for clear signage, announcements, and effective queue management.
At the petrol stations, he told commuters, “This is not merely about fines; it’s about clean air. Each valid PUCC issued today represents a small victory in our fight against pollution,” encouraging them to keep their certificates current.
