Lok Nayak, Malviya hospitals earn NQAS quality certification in Delhi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lok Nayak Hospital and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, both run by the Delhi government, have received the 'Quality Certified' recognition under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) framework, Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced on Monday, 25 May. The achievement marks a measurable step forward for public healthcare in the national capital.
Assessment Scores
Lok Nayak Hospital scored 95.89% in the national quality assessment process, while Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital recorded an even higher 96.72%. Both scores place them among the top-performing government hospitals assessed under the NQAS framework nationally.
What the Certification Covers
The NQAS recognition was awarded based on performance across multiple critical healthcare domains, including OPD services, ICU facilities, Blood Bank, Labour Room, Radiology, Laboratories, Emergency Care, and Maternal Health Services, along with several other clinical and support departments. The breadth of the assessment makes the certification a comprehensive quality benchmark rather than a departmental distinction.
What the Government Said
'Unlike the previous government, we believe in work, not empty promises. For years, Delhi's healthcare system suffered due to a lack of vision, accountability, and meaningful reforms,' said Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Singh also highlighted the Kayakalp initiative, which focuses on cleanliness and hygiene across all Delhi government hospitals. He added that 14 MRI machines and more than 25 ultrasound machines are set to be deployed across government hospitals in the coming period, aimed at expanding diagnostic capacity and reducing patient waiting times.
Broader Healthcare Push Under CM Rekha Gupta
The minister attributed the momentum to the broader vision of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's administration, which has prioritised quality standards, infrastructure upgrades, and improved patient experience across the capital's public health institutions. The government has framed the NQAS certifications as part of a sustained shift toward globally benchmarked healthcare delivery in Delhi's government hospital network.
What Comes Next
The planned augmentation of MRI and ultrasound equipment is expected to directly reduce diagnostic backlogs at government hospitals, where patients have historically faced long waits. Officials indicated that the government's commitment extends to ensuring every citizen can access quality treatment with dignity — a goal that will now be measured against the NQAS baseline these two hospitals have set.
