New Delhi, May 25 (NationPress) Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena expressed his appreciation on Sunday for the initiatives taken by the Rekha Gupta administration to desilt drains and enhance the city’s drainage infrastructure in anticipation of the upcoming monsoon rains.
In a post on social media, featuring videos of rainwater cascading through expansive drains, the L-G remarked, “The neglect that has accumulated over the past decade will require considerable time to resolve, but the governance efforts of the new administration are indeed commendable.”
Offering special recognition to the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, led by Minister Parvesh Verma, Saxena noted, “It’s uplifting to witness the Irrigation & Flood Control Department working diligently to ensure our drains operate effectively and to reduce waterlogging during heavy, unanticipated rains. The continuous efforts of Hon’ble CM Smt. @gupta rekha through field assessments and monitoring are beginning to yield results.”
The L-G’s commendation coincided with remarks from Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, who also praised the government for its preparations for the monsoon season.
Sachdeva highlighted that while abrupt storms and monsoon-related flooding have been a common issue in Delhi each year, the previous year’s situation was exacerbated by the inaction of the prior government. He stated that the current scenario has seen significant improvements.
Upon waking up, many Delhi residents encountered numerous reports of fallen trees and flooding due to a storm that occurred late the previous night.
In response to CM Gupta’s directive, all BJP MLAs and councillors, along with officials from the Delhi Jal Board and Public Works Department, mobilized on the streets.
“By 9 a.m., the majority of the fallen trees had been cleared, and the bulk of the waterlogging had been addressed, alleviating traffic issues across the city. By noon, the situation was largely under control,” he stated.
After each occurrence of rain, the residents of Delhi can distinctly observe the differences between the former Arvind Kejriwal administration and the current BJP-led government, he added.
Sachdeva asserted that while the Kejriwal administration tended to blame the L-G and officials for flooding, leaving residents stranded, the BJP government assumes responsibility and actively collaborates with officials and staff to restore normalcy post-storms or rainfall.
