New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has apprehended a habitual offender involved in 68 criminal activities, marking a significant advancement in a prominent snatching case that affected an NRI woman earlier this year, as stated by the Delhi Police on Friday.
The suspect, recognized as Tarun alias Gadam Wala, residing in Aman Vihar, had been evading capture for more than seven months and was designated as an absconder by a local court.
Officials reported that the arrest was executed by the Western Range-I team of the Crime Branch based on specific intelligence received on November 24.
Tarun, listed as a Bad Character (BC) at PS Aman Vihar, had successfully avoided several police operations after being implicated in a snatching incident involving a woman who was visiting Delhi from California.
The case, recorded under FIR No. 508/2025 at the Karol Bagh police station, concerns an event on April 5 when the victim was returning after withdrawing cash from a PNB ATM on Padam Singh Road.
On April 5, 2025, around 11:50 a.m., after withdrawing money from the PNB ATM, two unidentified individuals on a black scooter snatched her gold chain (approximately 15 grams) and fled towards Ganga Mandir Marg. Despite her cries for help, they managed to escape,” said the police in their press release.
“During the investigation, co-accused Rahul (the driver) was arrested, and the recovery of the scooter and gold chain was made. However, his accomplice Tarun alias Gadam Wala remained at large since the incident,” they added.
A team led by Inspector Mahipal and overseen by ACP Satendra Mohan, acted on confidential information and technical surveillance to trace Tarun in Aman Vihar and apprehended him without resistance.
During questioning, police stated that Tarun admitted to being the pillion rider who snatched the chain.
He disclosed that Rahul had stolen the scooter used in the crime and that he received Rs 6,000 as his share after selling the chain. Tarun also informed investigators that he is a drug user and committed the crime to support his habit. He had been released from prison in January 2025 after serving a sentence for another snatching case.
Police records indicate that the accused has been involved in 68 cases linked to snatching, theft, burglary, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act.
“His arrest signifies a major achievement in ongoing efforts to tackle repeat offenders and enhance public safety,” remarked DCP Harsh Indora.
