New Delhi, July 26 (NationPress) The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has successfully apprehended Hamidullah Bundu Khan (70), a fugitive who had been evading capture for four years after jumping parole. He was previously convicted for a heinous double murder involving his own daughters.
His arrest took place on July 25, following a meticulous operation focused on surveillance.
In 1999, Hamidullah was convicted for poisoning his three minor daughters, leading to the tragic deaths of the two younger girls, while the eldest survived and later testified against him. He received a sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under sections 302, 307, and 328 of the Indian Penal Code.
Initially granted parole, he failed to return after his term ended and lived in hiding for the last four years.
According to the Delhi Police, the operation was led by ACP Ramesh Chandra Lamba and Inspector Satender Poonia, with a dedicated team including Inspector Sohan Lal Bijarniya, SI Mukesh, ASI Vinay, and Constable Amit working tirelessly to locate him. They employed a mix of technical surveillance, manual tracking, and confidential leads.
The horrifying incident occurred on July 29, 1999, when Hamidullah, residing in Old Mustafabad, tried to poison all three of his daughters by making them swallow poisonous capsules.
The eldest daughter, who survived, recounted that Hamidullah returned home late and handed them capsules, claiming they were medication for stomach pain.
While he forced the younger girls to take the pills, the eldest pretended to comply and later discarded the capsule. She quickly sought help from neighbors.
Tragically, the younger girls were discovered frothing at the mouth and gasping for breath. They were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. Following this, Hamidullah fled but was apprehended the next day. He stood trial and was found guilty of double murder and attempted murder.
After serving part of his sentence, Hamidullah was released on parole but subsequently vanished, frequently changing residences, making it challenging for authorities to find him.
Ultimately, the Delhi Police traced him to Loni, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, where he had been living discreetly. He is currently in police custody and will return to prison to complete his sentence.
