New Delhi, July 4 (NationPress) A convict of rape who evaded parole in March while serving a 10-year sentence was captured in Moti Nagar just as he was preparing to sell his property and relocate to escape further imprisonment, according to a Delhi Police official on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam stated that Aditya Kumar, 34, was apprehended after investigators monitored a building in Ramesh Nagar colony for 14 hours based on suspicion of his presence.
The parole jumper, who completed Class 12, was employed at a private firm when he committed the crime against a woman in Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi on January 23, 2015, leading to his 10-year imprisonment sentence handed down in January 2024, as reported by the police.
Kumar, residing in Basai Darapur, Ramesh Nagar, was serving his sentence at Mandoli Jail when he requested interim bail on medical grounds on March 6 of this year, according to the police.
Upon granting him interim bail, a court mandated that he report back to Central Jail No.11 at Mandoli in East Delhi by May 5 after his treatment.
Nonetheless, he failed to comply and fled, breaching court orders, as per the police.
Acting on specific intelligence developed by Head Constable Amit, it was discovered that the fugitive was hiding in the Ramesh Nagar–Moti Nagar vicinity, noted DCP Gautam.
A police team conducted surveillance at various suspected locations and discreetly investigated his associates and movements to pinpoint his hideout, according to him.
"After approximately 12 to 14 hours of observation, the team focused on a building near B-Block, Ramesh Nagar. A raid was executed, resulting in the capture of Aditya Kumar from the first floor of the building," stated DCP Gautam.
In a different case, another fugitive, connected to eight crimes including murder, was arrested in Adarsh Nagar by the Crime Branch after being declared an absconder in a robbery case at the Mahendra Park Police Station.
"Pankaj alias Pankha has been dodging arrest since 2020," remarked DCP Gautam.
The 37-year-old uneducated suspect lived in North Delhi Jahangirpuri with his wife and children, according to the police.
His criminal record reveals involvement in numerous serious offenses including murder, armed robbery, possession of arms, and theft, police stated.
