Delhi Police nab burglar within hours using Apple live location tracking
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Delhi Police arrested a burglar and recovered multiple stolen electronic items — including an iPhone, iPad, Apple wristwatches, an Android mobile phone, and a Nikon DSLR camera — within hours of a house theft reported on 9 May 2026 at Kishangarh in South-West Delhi. The breakthrough came after the victim shared the live location data of her stolen Apple devices with the investigating team, enabling a swift trace of the accused.
How the Case Was Cracked
A PCR call regarding the house theft was received at Kishangarh Police Station on 9 May. The call was assigned to Sub Inspector Vinod Kumar, who, along with Constable Kewenilo, immediately reached the scene and conducted a detailed inspection with the Crime Team of the South-West District. An E-FIR (No. 80038020/26) was subsequently registered under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complainant's statement.
Acting on the live location signal from the stolen Apple products shared by the victim, the police team tracked the accused to Shani Bazar in Kishangarh and recovered the stolen property from his possession.
The Accused and His Motive
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Ashad Anwar. During interrogation, Anwar reportedly disclosed that he had visited the building to meet a friend. While descending the staircase, he noticed that the keys had been left in the lock of a room on the fifth floor. Seizing the opportunity, he entered the room and made off with the mobile phones and other valuables.
Anwar further revealed, according to police, that he was unemployed at the time and committed the theft to earn quick money and fund his liquor expenses.
Items Recovered
Police confirmed the recovery of several stolen items from the accused's possession, including an iPhone, an iPad, an Android mobile phone, Apple wristwatches, a Nikon DSLR camera, and other electronic articles. All recovered items are being matched against the complainant's inventory.
What Happens Next
Police stated that further investigation into the case is currently underway. The swift resolution underscores the growing role of device-level tracking features in urban theft investigations, and officials have credited the victim's prompt sharing of technical data as the key factor enabling the arrest.
