New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) – Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta issued a warning on Thursday to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi, urging her not to demean or discredit the Assembly Committees for her "narrow political interests."

The Speaker's statement came in response to Atishi's public criticisms regarding the ongoing 'Faansi Ghar' investigation led by the Committee of Privileges.

In an official letter released on Thursday, the Speaker expressed disapproval of the LoP's unfounded remarks during a press conference, emphasizing that such behavior threatens the impartial and independent operation of the Assembly’s Committee of Privileges.

This intervention was prompted by Atishi's claim that a 'Faansi Ghar' exists within the Assembly grounds.

In addressing these allegations, the Speaker emphasized that if there is any proof, it should be formally presented to the Committee of Privileges instead of being disclosed through the media.

The letter underscored a concerning trend of merging political discourse with parliamentary procedures.

The Speaker articulated that as a responsible member of the Assembly and as LoP, it is inappropriate for her to make comments or insinuations about an issue currently under review by a House Committee.

Expressing significant disappointment, Gupta highlighted that it is his responsibility as Speaker to uphold the dignity of the House against unverified claims made without supporting evidence.

This formal correspondence arrives just before the final scheduled appearance of the four individuals summoned on March 6, a date established by the Committee to ensure the inquiry progresses without further hindrance.

The Speaker's letter addressed to Atishi remarked, "My attention has been drawn to your press briefing where you made baseless statements regarding the summons issued to Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi."

"In your press briefing, you claimed that there was indeed a 'Faansi Ghar' on the Assembly premises. If that is true, I urge you to have Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Ram Niwas Goel, and Rakhi Birla present the evidence before the Committee of Privileges during its session. As you know, this is the very reason they have been summoned," the Speaker stated.

As a responsible member of the Delhi Assembly and as Leader of Opposition, it is inappropriate for you to make comments and cast doubts on a matter that is currently before the Committee, the Speaker added.

"You should recognize the distinction between a political party and the Assembly along with its Committees. The Delhi Assembly and its Committees now operate independently. This may be a novel concept for you, considering the historical misuse of the Assembly and its Committees in the past," he stated.

"As the Speaker of the House, I find it regrettable that you have resorted to such unfounded statements without any evidence, and I must advise you to refrain from insulting or defaming the Assembly Committees for your narrow political interests," he concluded.
