New Delhi, Oct 9 (NationPress) Tragic news has emerged from the national capital as three contractual workers have lost their lives and four to five others are feared to be trapped beneath the rubble after a wall collapsed late Thursday in Safdarjung Enclave. Rescue operations are currently underway, as reported by officials.

A call was made to the police control room about the incident, according to a police official. The caller indicated that "a wall has collapsed, trapping four to five individuals under the debris, with two to three casualties reported."

The injured workers range in age from 35 to 70 years and hail from Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh), Dausa (Rajasthan), and Sangam Vihar (Delhi).

Among the deceased, one worker is a resident of Madangir, Delhi, aged 60, as stated by the official.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered that construction work on a basement was underway.

During the excavation process, a concrete pillar at one corner, along with the soil from the basement, shifted, leading to the collapse of a section of the wall structure, according to the official.

This unfortunate incident resulted in the burial of several labourers beneath the debris and soil.

Emergency services, including the police, Fire Department, and Disaster rescue team, promptly reached the site to commence rescue operations.

As part of the operation, four injured workers were rescued and transported to Sukhmani Hospital for medical attention.

Two of the critically injured were transferred to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where one was declared dead upon arrival, while the other remains hospitalized in the Red Zone, receiving treatment, as confirmed by the official.

Rescue efforts have now concluded, and the accident site has been secured.

Legal proceedings are being initiated as required.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reported that a call regarding the incident was received at 6:09 PM, prompting the dispatch of multiple fire tenders for rescue efforts.

According to a DFS officer, "Five individuals were reported trapped when the wall of an under-construction basement collapsed. Before our arrival, locals managed to rescue one person. The remaining four were extricated by our teams with the help of the Delhi Police."

Officials revealed that construction activities were ongoing in the basement when a section of the wall unexpectedly gave way, trapping workers inside.
