New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded in Gurugram as a substantial soil mound collapsed at a construction site, claiming the lives of at least seven workers. Four injured workers were successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital. As of Tuesday morning, rescue efforts led by police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil defense teams, and firefighters were still in progress, with 10 workers feared trapped beneath the rubble.

Investigators revealed that the calamity occurred at a construction site designated for a sewage treatment plant, intended for a new residential project. The disaster was initiated when a wall collapsed, resulting in a significant cave-in of soil at the basement level.

The incident was reported to have taken place between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM on Monday, near the Gurugram–Rewari border. However, the police were only alerted about the situation after 9:15 PM when a hospital notified them of multiple casualties.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Manesar) Deepak Kumar Jewaria confirmed that five workers were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while additional fatalities were later confirmed on-site.

“We received information regarding the incident post 9:15 PM from the hospital, indicating five fatalities there. Immediate deployment of rescue teams was executed at the scene,” he stated.

Survivors and contractors present at the site informed the police that numerous workers were in the basement at the time of the collapse, estimating that at least 10 additional laborers might still be trapped under the debris.

In response to the disaster, civil defense teams, firefighters, and personnel from the SDRF initiated a comprehensive rescue operation. They employed heavy machinery, high-mast lighting, and other specialized equipment to clear debris and search for trapped individuals.

Senior officials from both the police and district administration arrived at the location to oversee and expedite the rescue operations.

Authorities indicated that the identities of the deceased workers have not yet been verified. Furthermore, they mentioned that an FIR may be filed if any complaints are lodged by the families of the victims or the injured.

Rescue operations remain ongoing at the site.
