New Delhi, May 18 (NationPress) Tragically, three individuals lost their lives and one person sustained injuries following the collapse of a building still under construction in the Paharganj locality of the national capital, according to official reports.
Rescue teams are currently engaged in thorough search and rescue operations at the site, with four fire tenders dispatched promptly to assist in the efforts.
The incident took place on Saturday evening near Krishna Hotel on Ara Kansa Road, where a side wall of the under-construction basement unexpectedly collapsed.
Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her sorrow over the loss of lives and has mandated a thorough investigation into the matter, assuring that strict actions will be taken against those responsible.
“May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss,” she posted on Saturday evening on X.
Chief Minister Gupta also expressed her condolences regarding the deaths of three individuals after the building's collapse and directed officials to extend all necessary support to the families of both the deceased and the injured.
The Chief Minister's Office remarked on X: “An unfortunate basement wall collapse was reported at an under-construction building in Paharganj. This incident has resulted in the loss of three precious lives and left one person seriously injured. Central Delhi District Magistrate, Karol Bagh SDM, MCD, and Delhi Police officials have visited the site.”
“Rescue operations were executed by the Delhi Fire Service and NDRF personnel. The Central Delhi DM has been instructed to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the deceased and injured. Our thoughts are with the families of the departed,” the post continued.
Officials revealed that two of the deceased hailed from Bihar, while one was from Uttar Pradesh.
The victims, identified as Prabhu (65), Niranjan (40), and Roshan (35), lost their lives in this tragic incident, while Chuttan (35) was hospitalized with injuries.
Prabhu was the contractor, and the other two were workers he employed.
Previously, the Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) of the Delhi Fire Service, Manish Kumar, reported that the fire station in Connaught Place was the first to respond to the emergency.
NDRF personnel also deployed a dog squad to assist in searching through the debris at the site.
