New Delhi/Dehradun, April 18 (NationPress) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed strong criticism against the Congress and its allies regarding the Constitution amendment related to women's reservation, labeling the failure to pass the Bill in Parliament as a significant disgrace to the women of India.
In a statement on the social media platform X, CM Dhami reflected on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address concerning the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' and accused opposition parties of revealing their anti-women attitude.
He pointed out that the Opposition’s refusal to allow the Bill to pass has hindered the political empowerment of women.
“The lack of support for the Constitution amendment concerning women’s reservation is not only regrettable but also equates to the foeticide of the political empowerment of our Nari Shakti,” stated CM Dhami.
Additionally, he condemned the behavior of Opposition leaders in Parliament, arguing that their celebratory responses to the Bill's defeat displayed a lack of empathy. “The celebration by the Congress and its allied leaders after the failure of this crucial Bill is a clear indication of their insensitivity and shamelessness,” he remarked.
Dhami emphasized that women nationwide would not tolerate what he termed an affront to their dignity and aspirations.
“The Matrishakti of this nation will never accept this insult. In the future, the women of our country will respond to this injustice through democratic means,” he asserted.
These comments arise amidst ongoing political debates between the ruling BJP and opposition parties about the women’s reservation Bill, which did not attain the necessary majority in the Lok Sabha.
Earlier, PM Modi stated that despite the setback in Parliament, it is merely a matter of time before barriers to women’s rightful representation are dismantled, reaffirming the government's unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment.
He remarked that the struggle for women’s reservation will persist until it is realized, highlighting determination and ongoing efforts.
Modi also criticized the Congress and its allies, accusing them of a historical reluctance towards women’s reservation and claiming that the Opposition has utilized misinformation and diversionary tactics, revealing their true motives to the women of the nation.
“This Bill was not about seeking credit. I even offered to acknowledge the Opposition in Parliament,” PM Modi noted.
He concluded by stating: “While we may not have secured 66 percent of the votes, we have received the blessings of 100 percent of women. Although we lacked the numbers yesterday, we will continue our fight.”
