Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, April 20 (NationPress) A local court in Ahmedabad district has ordered a two-day police remand for two individuals accused of murdering a 30-year-old man following a dispute arising from a minor motorcycle accident in Dhandhuka town. The defendants, Rizwan and Samir, appeared in court three days post the death of Dharmesh Gamara.
The police had requested a ten-day remand to conduct a more comprehensive investigation; however, after examining arguments from both parties, the court granted only two days of custody, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the necessity for the ongoing inquiry.
Under the escort of a convoy of over 15 police officers, the accused were presented in court, with additional personnel deployed to ensure order.
After the court session, a thorough recreation of the crime scene took place under stringent security measures.
Authorities enforced strict security at both the courtroom and the reconstruction site, given the sensitive nature of the case and the tense atmosphere in the vicinity.
Police officials indicated that these measures were vital to avert any potential disturbances and to uphold law and order.
The violent confrontation originated when a motorcycle operated by Samir, who was accompanied by his wife, collided with another bike belonging to a local youth from the Bharwad community.
During the ensuing altercation, Rizwan allegedly attacked Gamara with a knife, causing serious and fatal injuries.
Gamara succumbed to excessive bleeding from the wounds inflicted in the attack. This murder incited violence in the area, marked by vandalism, arson, and public unrest.
In response, police have initiated rioting charges against around 125 unidentified individuals and have taken decisive action against those involved in the turmoil.
Moreover, in light of appeals from the victim's family, a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to carry out a thorough, fair, and unbiased investigation into the murder.
Currently, while Dhandhuka experiences a relatively calm environment, police continue to maintain a robust presence to ensure law and order and public safety.
Addressing recent social media posts and rumors surrounding the incident, Ahmedabad Rural DySP Aastha Rana stated: “Numerous posts and stories are circulating regarding the death of a Muslim individual following the clash that occurred after the Dharmesh Bharwad murder in Dhandhuka. This information is false. The individual mentioned is alive and currently receiving medical treatment.”
