"Rizwan, who was at the house, allegedly assaulted a person named Dharmesh Gamara from the Bharwad community with a knife, inflicting severe leg injuries and causing significant blood loss. He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries," Jat informed IANS.
In the aftermath of the death, tensions soared, leading to groups taking to the streets.
Authorities reported that an outraged crowd engaged in vandalism, setting approximately eight to ten shops and tires ablaze in various parts of the town, especially in market areas.
This incident sparked panic, prompting traders to close their businesses and residents to stay indoors. A strong police presence, including senior officers and specialized unit teams, was swiftly deployed to the area.
Authorities intensified patrolling in sensitive regions to prevent further violence and restore calm.
Police confirmed the arrests of both Samir and Rizwan, while 15 to 20 individuals have been detained for their involvement in the unrest.
"We have detained around 15 to 20 people related to the incident. More FIRs and actions will be initiated tonight. Both Samir and Rizwan are under arrest. I urge everyone to maintain peace in the area," Jat stated.
Officials noted that additional FIRs might be filed as investigations and evidence collection continue.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and gathering witness statements to identify others implicated in the arson and vandalism.
Fire brigade units from nearby towns were dispatched to extinguish the flames after several shops were set on fire.
