Gondal, Feb 15 (NationPress) A shocking incident of domestic violence occurred in Gujarat’s Gondal on Saturday, where a man fatally stabbed his wife during a religious ceremony following a heated argument between them.

The tragic event unfolded near the Civil Hospital amidst a Mataji Mandwan ritual.

According to police reports, Manisha Dineshbhai Dabhi (24), a resident of Vorakotda Road, had attended the ceremony with her husband, Dineshbhai Dabhi, and other family members. Tensions escalated when Manishaben referenced her recent trip to Ahmedabad.

In a fit of rage, Dinesh accused her of disrespecting him and began shouting. In a shocking turn of events, he drew a knife and assaulted her. As Manisha attempted to flee, he stabbed her in the back, leaving her bleeding on the ground before he fled the scene. Family members quickly transported her to Gondal Civil Hospital, but her injuries were so severe that she was transferred to Rajkot, where she later passed away.

Following the report of the incident, PI Anand Damor from the A’ Division Police Station arrived at the location and initiated an investigation. A rapid police response led to the arrest of the accused within hours. Initial inquiries have indicated that Dinesh murdered his wife due to suspicions regarding her character.

Gujarat has seen a troubling rise in domestic violence cases in recent years. In 2021, the state recorded 1,945 incidents, reflecting a 28 percent increase from the previous year.

Significantly, Ahmedabad and Surat accounted for nearly half of these cases, with 541 and a substantial number, respectively. This alarming trend persisted into 2023, with family courts throughout Gujarat registering 27,194 marital dispute cases, marking a 50 percent rise over two years.

Experts link this increase to financial pressures following the pandemic and greater social media usage, which have intensified conflicts within households. Most complaints involve individuals aged 20 to 30, suggesting that even newer marriages are vulnerable to such disputes. This troubling rise highlights the urgent necessity for effective measures and support systems to combat and reduce domestic violence in the region.
