Tension Erupts in Danapur Following Arrival of Dahi Gop's Body

Patna, Dec 24 (NationPress) Tension engulfed Danapur on Tuesday when the remains of Ranjeet Rai, also referred to as Dahi Gop, were returned to his residence. He succumbed to injuries from a shooting that occurred during the night on Saturday, resulting in the death of another individual, as reported by the police.
The brazen attack happened on December 21 around 10 p.m. in the Pethiya Bazar area, targeting Ranjeet Rai and his companion, Gorakh Nath, as they were returning from a cremation service. Sources indicate that the attackers had been vigilantly observing their movements and awaited them at the scene of the crime.
Ranjeet Rai, a notable personality in Danapur, endured five gunshot wounds and was rushed to Paras Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on Tuesday. Gorakh Nath, who also suffered gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the attack scene.
This unfortunate event has sparked unrest in the area, with thousands gathering at Pethiya Bazar on Tuesday to pay their final respects as Ranjeet Rai's body was brought home.
In anticipation of potential unrest, the local administration deployed over 500 police officers to ensure law and order. Three Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), under the supervision of City SP West, are diligently monitoring the situation.
His last rites were conducted under strict police oversight. Ranjeet Kumar, also known as Dahi Gop, had multiple criminal cases against him, including murder, extortion, and violations of the Arms Act.
The police are intensifying their investigation into the attack, with efforts underway to identify and capture those responsible.
Initial findings suggest that Ranjeet Rai was the intended target, while Gorakh Nath was an unintended victim caught in the violence.
The police have urged community members to remain calm and avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions. Meanwhile, steps are being taken to restore normalcy and reassure the local population.
