Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 26 (NationPress) T.T.V. Dhinakaran, the General Secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), announced on Monday that he has no plans to run in the upcoming elections, expressing instead a strong desire for his colleagues to achieve victory and ascend to ministerial roles.
Addressing the media in Theni, Dhinakaran emphasized that his primary focus is on fortifying the party and securing electoral success for its candidates.
He dismissed rumors regarding his personal electoral ambitions, highlighting that true leadership transcends merely holding office and involves empowering others to attain power.
In a pointed critique of his adversaries, Dhinakaran questioned how those who profess to embody the legacy of the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa could claim to distance themselves from her principles.
He urged that anyone genuinely devoted to her vision should be prepared to take necessary actions to restore her party to prominence.
In a bold remark regarding actor-politician Vijay, Dhinakaran stated that political integrity starts with engaging with the public rather than speaking from afar.
Dhinakaran also acknowledged former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, labeling him a true volunteer of Jayalalithaa and expressing hope for his collaboration with the alliance. He recalled that absent an internal “dharma yuddham,” Panneerselvam could have reclaimed the Chief Minister position under V.K. Sasikala’s leadership.
Regarding the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Dhinakaran proclaimed it would signify a “true dawn” for the State, asserting that the space previously held by Jayalalithaa is now represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he believes will elevate Tamil Nadu to one of India’s pivotal States.
He confirmed that his party has voluntarily joined the National Democratic Alliance under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, without any external pressure.
In a scathing attack on the DMK, Dhinakaran accused the ruling party of rampant corruption, escalating drug trafficking, and a deterioration of law and order.
He alleged that multiple welfare initiatives launched by Jayalalithaa, including free gold for mangalsutras and laptops for students, have been halted.
Responding to accusations from a TVK leader claiming he was coerced into joining the alliance, Dhinakaran expressed his dismay at such assertions, firmly rejecting any allegations of financial wrongdoing or bribery.
